A Year 3 Curriculum Created for Children Learning at Home
By a primary teacher and former home educator
Year 3 is a gentle turning point.
Your child is growing, not suddenly, but steadily. Their thinking is deeper, their questions are bigger, and they’re ready to stretch a little further in writing, reading, and maths, without losing the security and rhythm of home education. This is the year where learning begins to feel more structured, but it doesn’t need to feel pressured. This curriculum was written by someone who understands that stage deeply. I’ve been a qualified primary teacher since 2005 and I’ve also raised and home educated my own children through these years. I know what strong Year 3 outcomes look like and I know how differently they can be reached at home.
This programme blends school-level expectations with the gentler, richer pace of home learning, so children can grow in confidence, skill, and independence without stress. Year 3 at home can be calm, purposeful, and genuinely enjoyable.

A Fully Connected, Cross-Curricular Curriculum
In Year 3, nothing is taught in isolation.
Learning is carefully interlinked across subjects, so ideas reinforce each other and make sense. History provides the storyline, English gives children the language to express it, maths develops the thinking to explore it, and science and geography explain the world behind it.
For example:
- while learning about Ancient Egypt, maths might explore 3D shapes and pyramids
- when studying the Flood, science and geography naturally connect through water, weather, and the water cycle
- timelines, maps, measurements, data, and written explanations all grow out of real context
This approach helps children:
✓ understand more deeply
✓ remember more confidently
✓ apply skills naturally
✓ see learning as meaningful, not fragmented
Easy Resources
Alongside the weekly flashcards, children use our Year 3 workbook, bringing writing, maths, and subject learning together in one clear, manageable place. Optional resources such as Conquer Maths or our spelling course (available at a discount) can be added for families who want extra structure, but the curriculum stands strong on its own.
This is a curriculum designed for how children actually learn at home: through connection, conversation, and steady building of understanding.
- Not rushed.
- Not random.
Just thoughtfully joined-up learning that builds confidence and meets, and often exceeds, Year 3 expectations.
