Let's Teach Year 2

A Confident, Joy-Filled Year 2 at Home with a Curriculum Written by a Teacher who Actually Teaches Year 2

If you’re stepping into home education for Year 2, you already know the vibe: wobbly handwriting, sudden confidence leaps, times-table triumphs followed by “Wait… what’s 5×5 again?”, endless questions, and at least one tooth falling out mid-lesson. This curriculum was built by someone who lives that world every single day. I’ve been a qualified teacher since 2005 and currently teach Year 2 in school.

I Also.....

..... Stepped into home education when my daughter, Malaya-Skye, left school at the end of Year 1 — and when Tiago left at the end of Year 2.

I’ve lived both sides.

I know exactly what seven-year-olds need, what schools expect, and what actually works at home.

Why This Curriculum Works

This curriculum wasn’t written in theory.

It was built through nearly twenty years working in education, across two government curriculum changes, teaching in primary classrooms and home educating my own children through them. I’ve taught Year 2 in school, and I’ve supported my own children through the transition into home education. I know where children wobble — and where parents start to doubt themselves. I know the real sticking points:

• “Is this actually a sentence?”

• Letters drifting off the line

• Capital letters going missing

• b/d reversals

• Tears over telling the time

• Times-table nerves

• Bursts of energy, sudden tiredness

• …and questions about literally everything

All of this has shaped how this curriculum was built. It anticipates the struggles before they become battles, supports children without pressure, and reassures parents that what they’re seeing is normal, temporary, and workable. This isn’t about pushing harder. It’s about understanding children better.
